Covid-19 Update

A Message from Bob Walker

Hello,

Both Bowls England and Bowls Leicestershire have issued further advice to clubs and their membership regarding the Corona virus outbreak.

The key message, and this applies to everyone not just bowlers is:

Stay home, stay safe, stop the spread

In his message, Roy Rogers of Bowls Leicestershire, says:

"I also have had many queries about whether it okay to still play Friendlies and Roll ups and my advice has been, that to do so, would be risking the health of members, and as a Safeguarding issue no club activities should be carried on for the foreseeable future. The email from Bowls England is the clearest statement that any club needs that all bowling and club activities should cease until we are advised to the contrary from the Government and Bowls England."

The Bowls England statement in part reads:

Tony Allcock OBE, Bowls England Chief Executive, said: “Understandably Bowls England has been inundated with enquiries from clubs and county associations regarding the Corona virus outbreak. Within the past week we have made decisions regarding our events that would have been unimaginable only a month ago. However, from the enquiries we continue to receive there is clearly still some confusion within our membership as to whether they can continue to participate in the sport of lawn bowls at club level during this period.

“At this stage, we must urge our members to follow the Government’s latest guidance, which clearly asks every person within society to stay at home if at all possible to help to stop this disease from spreading – and this is an appeal to everyone, not just those aged over 70 or the 1.5 million of the most at-risk people who have been told that they should stay at home for 12 weeks."

Club president David Alsopp and I feel it would be irresponsible for Measham Bowls Club to take part in any bowls fixtures, friendlies, roll-ups or league fixtures during the 2020 season.

The health of all our members is the priority at this unprecedented and very challenging time.

Thinking of you all.

Best Wishes

Bob
